OK, so I’ve upgraded to WP2.2, and it didn’t go quite as smoothly as I’d hoped.
Partly because of problems with my hardware at home ….

The good news is that the sidebar is now “widgetised”.
RSS feeds ought to work better as well. Thanks to &lt;a href="http://www.arnoldbreukhoven.nl/" rel="nofollow"&gt;Breukie&lt;/a&gt; for his widgets.

The downside is that to get there, I had to go back to the default theme and re-engineer the “skin”. This ought to make things easier with future upgrades.

Sorry if this has caused any problems in the meantime.</description>
